You can download Vroomtrap for the iPhone from the Download page or App Store on the iPhone or from the App Store on iTunes. Click here to visit the Vroomtrap iTunes page.
Adding a trap - As you are driving, if you see a speed trap on the highway, press the Add Trap button and select what type of speed trap you see. The mobile application will upload your current location as the location of the trap. If you check online at www.vroomtrap.com, you can see the trap you uploaded and other drivers who are passing by the trap you posted will be notified that a speed trap is in the area. Confirming a trap - As you are driving, the Vroomtrap mobile application is sending its location to the Vroomtrap website. When the website receives the data, the site scans in a 1 mile radius from where you are to see if there are any speed traps in the area. If there are traps in the area, the mobile device will download the traps form the website and alert you visually (buttons activate), audibly (warning beep), and physically (vibrations) to let you know that they may be approaching a speed trap.
Vroomtrap works within a 100 meter accuracy. The accuracy increases when using the iPhone 3G because of the build in GPS receiver.
In testing, we discovered that if you have dropped your iPhone or hit your iPhone against something, you can actually break the GPS module inside. Try restarting the phone, then attempt to you the "Maps" program to see how well that tracks you. If your phone is still under warranty, then we suggest taking it back to the Apple store. We are working on ways to optimize the wireless location tracking portion of the iPhone for 1st generation users as well.
Every half a mile, Vroomtrap will download all of the traps within a mile of your GPS coordinates. If Vroomtrap finds any speed traps in your area, the phone will alert you about them.
Vroomtrap will run while the phone is locked, but Vroomtrap should disables locking while you're driving to allow for quick response. If Vroomtrap beings automatically locking when you are using it, try restarting your phone disable auto-locking.
